  • 1. Joining creativity

    The name of the project: Joining creativity

    Overall objective: To enhance economic cooperation and trade between the Nordic countries and North-West Russia and contribute to the successful internationalization of creative industry firms in the Baltic Sea Region.

     

    Specific objectives:

    • To identify creative industry business opportunities with the aim to boost the business in the region;

    • To facilitate new ways of cooperation between business and academia by elaborating recommendations for business;

    • To increase information exchange and networking between Nordic and North-West Russian businesses and authorities;

    • To spread the information about creative industries in Nordic countries and Russia.

     

     

    Expecting results:

    • Increasing awareness among the target groups of CI potential in the Nordic countries and North-West Russia through well-planned activities;

    • Increasing information exchange and networking between Nordic and Russian firms and authorities to support the development of creative industries in Nordic countries and North-West Russia;

    • Knowledge and competence enhancement for Nordic and North-West Russian firms;

    • Accumulation of knowledge  by involving experienced entrepreneurs as mentors in the project

    • Strengthening the realization of different kinds of new partnerships between public and private sector actors, sharing of best practices, innovative platforms and operating models that ensure qualitative development work and hence cultivation of cross-cutting ideas into economically sustainable and concrete projects and actions;

    • Accessibility of knowledge and information of support services by communication activities.

  • 2. ComUn Youth

    The name of the project: ComUn Youth (Combating Unemployment among Youth). CBC Phase 5.

    Overall objective:  is to improve the employment situation of youth in the periphery in Russian-Nordic-Baltic border areas.

     

    Specific objectives:

     

    • To increase competence in combating youth unemployment and apply new solutions in the border regions of North-West Russia, the Nordic and Baltic countries;

    • To create a platform uniting authorities, labour market, educational institutions, researchers, companies and youth organizations from the Nordic countries, Baltic countries and North-West Russia;

    • To exchange and distribute the best regional and local practices for combating youth unemployment and increasing youth employment in the Baltic Sea and Barents border regions, using the project’s web-site; creation of new employments; sustainable entrepreneurship; free movement of employees in cross-border regions; education; cooperation of public agencies and cross-border statistics.

     

    Expecting results:

     

    • Youth (individuals or organizations) will  take part in the project activities;

    • Increasing awareness of youth in border regions about possibilities of self-employment, development of  their entrepreneurial skills;

    • ComUn Youth forum will be organized;

    • Establishment of a new international network of companies’ cooperation, increasing awareness of companies about /tools that support youth employment;

    • Business community will participate in the project activities.

     

     

     

     

     

  • 3. KA325 «WHITE ROAD  – Cross-border Tourism Development in Northern Finland and the Republic of Karelia»

    Overall objective: to increase inbound tourism in Kainuu, Oulu Region and the Republic of Karelia bу creating new, high quality travel products

     

    Specific objectives:

    • to tighten co-operation and networking between tourist service companies in Finland and the Republic of Karelia
    • to promote the branding and marketing of the area along "White Road" and of the new cross-border tourism products by creating a new marketing name and identity for the tourism services in the area
    • to develop professional competencies of staff of the tourist companies in the project area
    • to enhance the co-operation and exchange of information among entrepreneurs and officials at local and regional level
    • to facilitate both small- and large scale investments in the tourism infrastructure

     

    Main results of the project:

    • establishing of business networks between Russian, Finnish companies
    • increasing of the quality of service and products
    • developing of new tourist products which are tested and assessed according to the standards
    • implementation of supply of up-to-date information on tourism facilities and services in the Republic of Karelia
    • strengthening of cooperation among educational institutions in the sphere of tourism
    • developing of new networks of international cooperation among entrepreneurs and educational institutions

    Overall objective: to increase health and well-being of people and to influence decrease of state differences in the Republic of Karelia and in the North Karelia

     

    Specific objectives:

    • To increase knowledge among people about risk factor and a healthy lifestyle
    • To attract the challenging population groups to preventive health services
    • To develop working methods and skills of the professionals and upgrade health promotion materials
    • To make survey on health service quality in sparsely populated areas
    • To strengthen cooperation between two Karelias

     

    Intermediate results:

    • «Health Centre» received for use a hardware complex for psychosomatic state estimation “Health-Express”, a system for heart screening “Cardio visor”, a computerized spirometer, carbon monoxide analyzer, body impedance analyzer, cholesterin and glucose analyzer
    • According to the results of conducted researches not only actual health problems of the patient could be revealed but also risk factors. Due to profound research of the problem zones, it is possible to form a detailed health picture of the patient

Vardo Galleri NK (Norway) Funding: Nordic Council of Ministers Overall objective: to facilitate branding activities aimed at improving quality of life, enhancing economic development and strengthening competitiveness in medium-sized cities of the Northern Dimension region Specific objectives:
To establish sustainable ND network for common branding of medium-sized cities
To identify steps needed for branding of medium-sized cities and for a common city branding strategy for medium-sized cities
To identify pilot projects in city branding in medium-sized cities and to prepare one programme for every pilot project
To create joint event calendar as a part of common marketing strategy of the ND region, for further use for region promotion among citizens and tourists Results:
II International conference «Cities by the water: Images real and virtual» was carried out on 21-22 of February 2014 in Petrozavodsk. About 150 scientists and experts in the spheres of strategic planning, territorial marketing and branding, territorial planning and design took part in this event. In the course of discussion participants considered the interconnection of development strategy of a region and branding of a territory, creation of tourist clusters and cooperation networks of different urban communities, instruments of city transformation and the role of architecture and also the potential of usage of territory water resources.
The chain of events and visits took place within the project with the aim to exchange information and experience and to prepare proposals concerning city branding. The theme of the seminar in Varkaus was "Role of local products in city marketing". Specialists in marketing, tourism and cultural policy from Narva (Estonia), Umea (Sweden), Vyborg and Petrozavodsk told about tools of attracting citizens and guests at the conference in Vybrog. The international seminar "City Architecture as Part of City Branding" took place In November in Estonian city Narva.
  • 7. KA 478 «Dancing Whirlpool»

Karelian resource Centre of NGOs Funding: European Neighborhood and Partnership Instrument Cross-Border Cooperation Karelia Programme (ENPI CBC Karelia) Overall objective: development of cross-border cooperation in the spheres of culture and modern dance art and also strengthening of contacts among cultural establishments of the Republic of Karelia and Finland Results:
The performance with participation of students from colleges of 2 countries was created on the basis of modern choreography and ethno cultural aspects
Master classes of contemporary dance and the festival of modern choreography was conducted for the members of youth dancing studios
The trip of the Russian delegation was organized to Outokumpu for conduction of master classes on Russian and folk dances
Finnish participants of the project returned a visit in order to familiarize Russian students with the peculiarities of the dance Contemporary, including the elements of West Dance (classic dance, jazz-modern), as well as East Arts (yoga practice)
  • 8. Bicycle – a step to an eco-city: Scandinavian experience in creating favorable ecological situation in the Republic of Karelia

    Overall objective: Examination of the partner-countries’ successful experience in the substitution of vehicles, running on petrol and gas by electric cars and bicycles, and the use of special trails (bike paths) with the aim to elaborate further recommendations for the Administration of Petrozavodsk on introduction the using of ecologically pure transport in Petrozavodsk and extension it in the Republic of Karelia

     

    Specific objectives:

    • Improving the environmental situation in Petrozavodsk by reducing the number of  automobiles that pollute the atmosphere
    • Enabling the citizens to reduce municipal transport expenditures and spending on fuel for private automobiles
    • Enabling the citizens without private vehicles to be independent of municipal transport
    • Reducing the number of traffic congestions in the city, that will allow the citizens to make their travel time more efficient
    • Involving sufficient number of citizens of Petrozavodsk in active lifestyle that will have a positive impact on citizens’ health
    • Establishing contacts and intensifying the cooperation with organizations directly dealing with the subject of the project for joining common efforts in the sphere of clean environment preservation
    • Disseminate the gained experience in the Republic of Karelia

     

    Results:

    • Educational trips of the delegation from the Republic of Karelia to Finland (Helsinki, Joensuu) and Denmark (Copenhagen) were conducted in order to exchange experience and examine the information on creation and support of healthy and safe environment
    • The final seminar on promotion of cycling in Petrozavodsk and mass event “VELOVE Automn” was conducted
    • The collection of articles “BICYCLE – A STEP TO AN ECO-CITY”, containing detailed information about the gained experience was published.

  • 9. Ice through the eyes of artists: Vardø and Petrozavodsk cooperation

    The Karelian Resource Center of NGOs helps to set up an exhibit called “The Colors of the Arctic” at the School of Musical and Choral Arts №2 master classes with the Photographic Academy students and in organization a picture exhibition at the Rodnik Rehabilitation Center for handicapped children and adolescents to  a Norwegian photo artist and colorist Asbjørn Nielsen. The Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Karelia and the Children’s School of Musical and Choral, as a part of the Third Russian-Norwegian Cultural Forum support all events.

  • 10. The Baltic Bridge

    Implementation period: 2011.

    Results:

    • An educational trip to Denmark and Finland aimed at garbage collection experience exchange.

    • The group members visited the stations of waste collection “Nørrebro Waste Model” (Nørrebro district, Copenhagen). They studied the system of waste incineration and use of energy for heating the houses in Denmark

    • They visited the factories Päijät-Hämeen Jätehuolto Oy and Kujalan Komposti Oy (Finland).

     

     

  • 11. The Youth cultural exchange project “Learning from Each Other”

    Implementation period: 2011.

     

    Partners:

    • The Karelian Resource Center of NGOs,

    • The Educational Association “Universal Knowledge”, Gdansk,

    • Polish National-Cultural Autonomy “Karelian Polonia”.

     

    Goal: introduction to the Polish culture and traditions and presentation of Russian and Karelian cultures.

     

    Results: While being in Poland, the children have learnt a lot of new things and got new impressions. They found out more about Polish traditions and made new friends.

     

     

  • 12. Northern cities: safety and equal rights for everybody

    Implementation period: 2011.

     

    Partners:

    • Karelian regional women’s public movement “Amal”,

    • The Karelian Resource Center of NGOs.

     

    Sponsorship: the Nordic Council of Ministers.

     

    Goal: The development of the international cooperation and creation a mutually beneficial Russian and Northern Countries NGOs business links network for further interaction in the domain of women’s rights protection.

    Results:

     

    • Introduction to Northern countries public organizations activities in the sphere of gender equality and women’s safety

    • Visiting the multicultural center “Monika” of the region Kajaani (Finland), Women’s school and House of Friendship (Oulu, Finland), Women’s shelter and the Icelandic Women’s Protection Association.

    • A final seminar, in which, besides the overseas experts, the representatives of Petrozavodsk Administration, public organizations, social and educational establishments have taken part.

    • Participative activities, including information gathering, communication, discussion, negotiation and development of interventions can play a vital role in the empowerment process. For those women and women’s groups, who are motivated to participate, there can be multiple individual and collective benefits that have an impact across a wider range of activities.

    • Based on the new experience, the “Northern Cities, Safety and Equal Rights for Everyone” project initiators have published a brochure, which contains examples of the Russian participants and their overseas counterpart’s successful experience.

     

     

  • 13. Exchange of experience in overcoming handicapped children’s and adults’ social deprivation

    Implementation period: 2011.

    Goal: to find out more about Swedish and Finnish NGOs’, cultural and educational establishments’ experiences in overcoming the handicapped children’s and adults’ social deprivation, to get familiar with the handicapped children’s and adults’ social rehabilitation and abilitation programs and methods by means art-therapy.

     

    Results:

    • Getting familiar with the handicapped people aid provision legislative framework, the system of the state and private sectors partnership in teaching handicapped children and the art-therapy methods for school education.

    • The project implementation has revealed a strong necessity to continue work in this sphere: develop the actual projects and reinforce the partnership to create and a friendly urban and social environment for all city dwellers.

     

     

  • 14. Euronet NGO-Effect

    Implementation period: 2009–2010.

    • The State Committee of the Republic of Karelia for Development of Local Self-Government,

    Goal: to create the conditions for citizens and the civil society institutions participation in making decisions at a local level.

     

    Results:

    • Creation of a network of NGO partners of the project in the participant countries

    • Creation of a mechanism of partnership and involvement in local self-government to transmit European experience in the field;

    • Creation of the network of interaction NGO partners’ of the project in the countries of the Baltic region;

    • Elaboration of method of access for the population of remote municipal authorities to the information resources on the basis of local NGO’s support with the aim of involvement the population in making-decision process;

    • Creation of the working mechanism of partnership and participation in local government of the European level for exchange of experience.

     

     

     

  • 15. Equal to Equal. Applying Polish experience in working with the unemployed in Karelia

    Implementation period: 2009.

     

    Partners:

    • Katowice Local Fellowship and Cooperation Institute (Poland).

    Sponsorship: Stefan Batory (Warsaw, Poland).

     

    Goal: to transfer and apply Polish social problems solving method

     

    Results:

    Members of the Russian delegation visited seminars, trainings, to get familiar with the way social enterprises in Gliwice, Katowice and Krakow work, where they acquired necessary skills and knowledge to create support teams for the unemployed, developed cooperation between authorities, business and NGOs for social problems solving. They also visited a business game devoted to discussing new technologies aimed at fighting unemployment.

    The Polish delegation made a return visit to Karelia which lasted from July 13 to July 17 in the year 2009. As a part of the trip there were held conferences, round tables and working meetings at the Petrozavodsk Job Center and at the Labor and Employment Ministry in Sortavala and Kondopoga.

    A meeting with the Minister Givi Karepetov was organized at the Ministry.

     

     

     

     

  • 16. Education — Tourism — Health. Russian-Norwegian Tourism Lifelong Learning Partnership.

    “Education — Tourism — Health. Russian-Norwegian Tourism Lifelong Learning Partnership” — is an international project which was brought to life in Louhi municipal district and Finnmark province (Norway).

    Implementation period: April 2008 — January 2009.

    Partners:

    •  The Karelian Resource Center of NGOs,

    • “Varanger” Museum (Norway),

    • The Institute of Economics of Karelian Scientific Center of RAS,

    • Perovsky College,

    • The Ministry of Economic Development of the Republic of Karelia.

    Sponsorship: “New Eurasia” Fund, the Barents Secretariat and Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the International Development Cooperation Agency of the USA through Development Fund.

    Goal: to set the stage for sustainable economic development of Karelian and Norwegian northern regions by introducing tourism lifelong learning system on the basis of institutional partnership.

    Results:

    • Seminars for a group of entrepreneurs from Louhi district with the participation of Norwegian experts, which were devoted to the organization of tourism and hotel business and the ability to generate an interesting idea and to bring it to life.

    •  An essay writing contest for Louhi district senior students was held in May 2008.

    • A research of professional level of the personnel working in the sphere of tourism, detection of requirements of labor market in educational services and the existing investment offers was conducted with help of the experts of Economy Institute of the Karelian scientific center of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

    • The training trips to Norway.

    • Opening of the International tourist educational Center in Louhi.

    • Signing the institutional Agreement between the Administration of the Louhsky municipal area, Perovsky college, Karelian resource Center of NGOs.

    • Presentation of project’s results.
