  • 1. Barrier-free environment

    Project implementation: 1 December 2013 – 1 November 2014

     

    Project partners:

    Funding: The Ministry of Health and Social Development of the Republic of Karelia

     

    Overall Objective: to assist to disabled people in the Republic of Karelia with a view to increasing their level of social adaptation

     

    Specific objectives:

    • to increase competence of the project organizations involved in work with disabled people by means of their participation in educational modules
    • to inform disabled people about access to technical rehabilitation equipment
    • to draw attention of local authorities to the problem of accessibility
    • to work up the recommendations for creation of accessibility in the Republic of Karelia
    • to strengthen cooperation among the project organizations with a view to implementing future joint projects

     

    Results of the project:

    • Theory knowledge and practical skills of workers of the project organizations in the sphere of accessibility and using of rehabilitation equipment for disabled people were upgraded
    • Architectural planning proposals concerning the adaptation of accommodation with a view to providing comfortable living for disabled people without exterior help were elaborated
    • Furniture and equipment was purchased for “a functional home” in acting rehabilitation centres in Petrozavodsk (“Istoki”, “Rodnik”), Kostomuksha (“Citizen social service centre”) and Kondopoga (“Zabota”)
  • 2. Social and cultural adaptation of children and teenagers from families of

    different nationalities in the Republic of Karelia

    Project implementation: December 2013 – November 2014

    Partners:

    • Public Council to the Branch Office of the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation in the Republic of Karelia
    • Public Council to the Department of the Federal Migration Service of the Russian Federation in the Republic of Karelia
    • Council of non-governmental organizations under the Chairman of the Legislative Assembly of the Republic of Karelia
    • Public Council under the Head of the Republic of Karelia for Prevention of Extremist Activity
    • Council under the Head of Karelia for promotion of civil society institutions, support of non-governmental initiatives, activity of socially oriented non-commercial organizations and international cooperation
    • Public Anti-corruption Council to the Public Prosecution Office of the Republic of Karelia

     

    Overall Objective: to create favorable educational and adaption environment for children and teenagers from families of different nationalities and to strengthen interethnic harmony in the Republic of Karelia

     

    Objectives:

    • To attract experts to work with children and teenagers from families of different nationalities
    • To elaborate and implement a program of educational events for children and teenagers from families of different nationalities
    • To create informative, consultative, social and cultural basis for support of interethnic interaction in the regions of the Republic of Karelia
    • To low interethnic tension, to develop tolerant attitude to the representatives of different nationalities
    • To upgrade the skills of experts in the Centers of interethnic cooperation and work with children of different nationalities
    • To consult on legal issues in the Centers of interethnic cooperation

     

    Expected results:

    • Experts of 4 Centers of interethnic cooperation upgraded their qualification in the sphere of rendering assistance in social and cultural adaptation of children and teenagers from families of different nationalities in the Republic of Karelia
    • Experts of educational sphere were engaged in the work for social and cultural adaptation of children and teenagers from families of different nationalities
    • More than 100 people – local citizens of the pilot regions – took part in 4 events, aimed at familiarizing with cultural diversity of the republic and creation of a positive image of representatives of different nationalities
    • 3 issues of news-bulletin “News-letter of NGOs”(“Vestnik NPO”) – 999 copies each- were published
    • 10 Centers of interethnic cooperation in the Republic of Karelia are provided with the subscription to newspapers and magazines
    • Thematic literature and informative materials are purchased and distributed among the Centers of interethnic cooperation
  • 3. Territorial Resource Centers for organizations working with elderly people

    Funding: The Ministry of the Economic Development of the Russian Federation

     

    Overall Objective: creating conditions and opportunities for the development of regional resource centers for organizations working with elderly people

     

    Specific objectives:

    • to get and render informational, consulting and methodical assistance to socially oriented NGOs which are acting or potential territorial resource centers that organize systematical work to promote high quality living standards for elderly people, including collecting of resources and interaction of socially oriented NGOs, public authorities, business, state institutions and city communities;

    • to elaborate and implement territorial programs aimed at raising of working standards of local socially oriented organizations that deal with elderly people, as well as at development of stable interaction of NGOs, authorities and business in sphere of  stable interaction to improve the living standards for elderly people;

    • to reveal, generalize and spread best practices of socially oriented organizations, authorities and business in sphere of  unification and interaction in the sphere of living standards improvement for elderly people;

    • to get experience of active involving of communities of different categories and ages in the process of living standards improvement for elderly people so as to develop cooperation and partnership in the territories and between territories of the Program;

    • to organize vivid uniting network events which can become traditional and annually attract new participants and territories.

     

     

  • 4. Self-employment is a passport to success!

    Self-employment is a passport to success! Creating conditions for organization of work places in pilot project territories for further social and economic development and tourists attraction

     

    Project implementation: October 2009 - 2010

    • The Ministry of Labor and Employment of the Republic of Karelia;

    • The Ministry of Economic Development of the Republic of Karelia;

    • The Ministry of Agriculture, Fishing and Ecology of the Republic of Karelia;

    • Petrovsky College;

    • Administrations of Kondopoga, Pitkaryanta and Pryazha region.

     

    Funding: state financial support appropriated as a grant in accordance with the decree of the President of the Russian Federation dated March 16, 2009 №160-рп

     

    Overall Objective: creating conditions for self-employment of population to reduce the level of unemployment in rural settlements

     

    Specific objectives:

    • To create conditions for sustainable system of employment through network cooperation of government bodies, local government authorities, employers and non-governmental organizations. Project’s territories include rural settlements of Kondopoga district (Spasskaya Guba and Girvas), Pryazha (Svyatozero and Essoila)  and Pitkaryanta districts (Lyaskelya and Salmi).

    • Participants of training workshops will  get and opportunity to elaborate business plans to start up tourist, agriculture or other business. Investment proposals complying with the requirements will get financial support to organize an enterprise in the sphere of tourism, agriculture etc.

     

    Results:

    • The project has become an additional information and motivation factor for the activation of rural population which encourages reduction of labor-market strains and promotes improvement of social and economic conditions in pilot projects. Elaborated within the project schemes for tackling unemployment will be applied in other districts of the Republic of Karelia.

    • Within the framework of the project’s implementation a brochure with final information and methodological materials was published. It is a manual for unemployed citizens, newcomer entrepreneurs and other stakeholders.

     

     

  • 5. Contribution to the reform of local government in the Republic of Karelia

    Contribution to the reform of local government in the Republic of Karelia

    Project implementation: 2007-2008

    for Development of Local Self-Government

    • Karelian subsidiary of the federal state education institution “North-West Academy of Civil service” in Petrozavodsk

     

     Funding: Within the framework of joint project of the United Nations Development Program and the Ministry of Regional Development of the Russian Federation № 00014638 “Contribution to the reform of local government in the Russian Federation” in the Republic of Karelia.

     

    Overall Objective: to contribute to the reform of local government in the Republic of Karelia. Events in framework of project’s implementation were held in five pilot municipal districts: Kondopoga, Segezha, Olonets and Sortavala.

     

    Specific objectives and results:

    • Implementation of training programs within the fulfillment of project’s events,

    • Elaboration of methodological guidelines,

    • Creation of a special web-site on local government,

    • Publication of methodological materials,

    • Broadening awareness of population of pilot municipal districts about local government,

    • Organization and implementation of public opinion polls to assess the awareness of population of pilot municipal districts about federal legislation in the sphere of organization of local government, activity of local government authorities; organization and implementation of public opinion polls to assess the level of cooperation with local government bodies,

    • Training staff of local government bodies of pilot municipal districts in the sphere of distribution of powers and jurisdiction at local and district levels,

    • Actualization of the role of existing and emerging public councils of local administrations.
