The Fund "Petrozavodsk" was implementing a project "Academy of the Practical Art Therapy "Miracle" (Extremely Amazing Kids Discovery) for six months, which received funding from the Ministry of Health and Social Development of the Republic of Karelia in the regional program «Accessible Environment in the Republic of Karelia». Within the project the managers of the Fund together with the invited experts tried to create conditions for the rehabilitation of children with various diseases who get the medical treatment in the Republican Children’s Hospital, by means of art therapy.
Children are known to face a lack of communication within the hospital treatment. Children who are in hospital often perceive the outside world within a range of minor moods: sadness, resentment, hostility and fear. Within the framework of our project we contributed to the rehabilitation of children not by medicine but by creating positive emotions. One of the most popular forms of art therapy are isotherapy, kuklotherapy, klounothrapy. Art therapy promotes the process of treatment and rehabilitation, the improvement of the life’s quality of children who suffer from serious diseases or children with disabilities.
The key events of the project were activities that were organized in different departments of the hospital. The drawing lessons were conducted in the cardiology department. Children were asked to dream about cats during this lesson. The exhibition of children's works created during the project was opened later in the hospital.
The painting lessons with acrylic colours were organized in the allergen-pulmonary department. Children tried themselves as painters-decorators during this lesson. Children were engaged in painting of wooden toys by a diverse palette of acrylic colours. The performance of the Doll Theatre’s artist took place in the neurology department. Children were introduced with the mysterious dolls of the theatre, and they also participated in fun competitions and dramatization of the fairy tale "The Turnip". The performance of the artist -clown was conducted in the endocrinology department. Children took part in fun games, tried to make figures from balloons by themselves.
Moreover, the Fund managed to attract students of the Karelian College of Culture and Arts to participate in the project activities. The volunteers have been trained in a lecture-training with a psychologist and they attended the class in the Children’s Hospital as a practice, which was conducted by a professional artist. Then students independently were organizing an additional event on klounotheraphy in the surgical department of the hospital. A video was created and the informational booklet which contains the main stages of the project was published as a result of the project.
We believe that the project’s activities have contributed to the removal of psychological stress of children who have been in the hospital for a long time. The creative process has helped to distract young patients from illness and the hospital atmosphere, to get positive emotions and positive mood for recovery.
The fund "Petrozavodsk" is planning to continue the implementation of activities in children's hospitals after the ending of the project. The video can be viewed at the link https://vimeo.com/142359395

A class in a clown-therapy within the project “The Academy of practical art therapy “MIRACLE” took place in Petrozavodsk on September 9, 2015.
The employees of fund “Petrozavodsk” organized clown’s performance in endocrinological office of Children's republican hospital.
An actress of The National Theatre of Karelia, who’s name is Olga Portretova, held the fascinating event for little patients. Children have taken part in cheerful games, tried to make figures of balloons.
The purpose of clown therapy is to make children happy and healthy. Clowns help to patient to forget about medical problems, intensifying recovery processes. Hospital clowns help the children’s rehabilitation not with the medicine, but by the creation of positive emotions. The child, who is loaded with energy, radiates cheerfulness, shows interest in the world around, in game, and that way the child is less inclined to the experience of pain.
The doctor-clown becomes for the child the guide from the endured sufferings to the healthy and balanced psychological state, supports and increases motivation of the child on treatment and the fight against a disease.
We hope that our clown helped children to distract from diseases and adjusted them on the harmony.

Bicycle Olympiad started for Karelian cyclists In summer 2015 — the competition, demanding from participants skills of driving bicycle and knowledge of culture and history of Karelian cities, in which the Olympiad was held.
The calendar of cycle adventures was saturated: May, 30 — Kondopoga, June, 13 — Medvezhyegorsk, June, 14 — Segezha, June, 28 — Sortavala, July, 12 — Pryazha, August, 2 — Kostomuksha, August, 8 — Belomorsk, August, 9 — Kem’, August, 16 — Olonets, August, 23 — Suoyarvi, September, 20 — Petrozavodsk.
We decided to question firsthand from winners, participants, and organizers, how the Olympiad was held!!
Dmitry Brovin, team “Chains Don't Creak!” Medvezhyegorsk: “Tasks of “The Bicycle Olympiad” were different: from very simple to very difficult, demanding not only strong feet, but first of all the head. The most interesting task at sports school of Medvezhyegorsk was a search of sign. How cute it was ciphered: “there, on unknown paths, bow to Chichikov, you will see a white sail, it isn't necessary for you to go so far , look for a beam in the dark Kingdom”, etc. We understood that the streets are named after famous writers are ciphered here and ran to look for it, great!
Andrey Norikov, team “A Day to Remember”, Segezha: The Bicycle Olympiad's participant is a person who is rushing at full speed through the city and only he knows, where he is rushing! My mood was lightened up by interesting competitions before the start. For example, “Chelovel”! One of control points was remembered: It was on a beach, relay race. Usually the baton is transferred on the run, and here on bikes!”
Mikhail Kargapolov, team “Veselopedista”, Sortavala: “I would like to thank the organizers, the volunteers and the participants for this holiday! We liked the tasks very much. While we were performing the tasks to addresses, we forgot about riddles, that’s why it was necessary to pass a route once again. While we were looking for mailboxes on South Lane, local old women asked us: “Children are you new postmen?” Emotions ran high!”
Ekaterina Shepetovskaya, team “Arctic Monkeys”, Kostomuksha: “The cycle-quest has remained in the memory. Tasks were fascinating! Carrying out them, we traveled over the city and saw it on the other way! It is necessary to note that pouring rain didn't hinder us and we have finished! I received a lot of positive emotions on a holiday of cyclists; I couldn’t find words to express my emotions!”
Yulya Mukhina, “Olonets’ Ladies” team, Olonets: “I’ve taken part in the cycle parade for the first time. We passed on the main city’s streets! And then the cycle-quest started! Intriguingly! What do lie ahead really? The most fascinating tasks and a lot of positive!”
Alexander Bazhenov, “Bad grease monkeys” team, Suoyarvi: “I liked The Bicycle Olympiad very much. Me and my team didn't expect to win. When we had reached to the finish, we breathed with relief. We overcame about 20 kilometers during the race. It is daily norm for us, the only thing is, that we didn’t constantly ride with such a high speed as today. It was an amazing day, because you couldn’t see so many people in Suoyarvi on other days.
Denis Skavinsky, “The Night Furies” team, Petrozavodsk: the team “Night furies” became the participant of the Bicycle Olympiad in 10 different cities: “I’ve learned from the Internet about the Bicycle Olympiad, I was invited for the meeting in social web “Vkontakte” and I lit up at the idea of participation. I think that Kondopoga has remained firmly in our memory.
There is very beautiful city. We didn't know what it is The Olympiad, and it was cheerful and interesting to us. Kondopoga was the first try and I think it remains in my memory like the best game of the Bicycle Olympiad”.
Darina Dominikan, the organizer in Medvezhyegorsk: “The Bicycle Olympiad is one of the most remarkable events of last summer! It helped me to see the history of the city on the other way and I had fallen in love with this city again”.
The Bicycle Olympiad’s organizers are: Bicycle movement “VELOVE”, “Running City” project, Youth organization “Veloekstrim” and Petrozavodsk State University. The Bicycle Olympiad took place with support of the Ministry youth affairs, physical culture and sport of the Republic of Karelia.

The seminar “Development of Accessible Tourism” was conducted on 14th of April at the Informational Center of museum “Kizhi”. The seminar was held within the project “Accessible environment at tourist facilities: example of an open-air museum “Kizhi” financed by the Ministry of Health and Social Development of the Republic of Karelia. The director of Karelian Tourism University Elvira Pavlova, Leading specialist of the Ministry of Health and Social Development of the Republic of Karelia Irina Petrova, Director of the Karelian Library for the Blind Natalya Feklicheva, Director of the Karelian Tourist Information Center Alexey Tigushkin, Director of the Engineering company “Strih” Sergey Lykov and representatives of many NGOs took part in the event.
There was serious and comprehensive discussion on creation of barrier-free environment for people with disabilities not only at tourist facilities, but in the whole in the Republic and in Petrozavodsk. Karelian Library for the Blind was the pioneer at the methodical work on accessibility implementation. “The library is ready to share its experience, resources and experts” – said the director of the library Natalya Feklicheva in her presentation.
The leading specialist of the Ministry of Health and Social Development Irina Petrova told about state programs devoted to the accessible environment, its directions and how much resources are spent on it. She pointed out that the Federal Program “Accessible Environment” prolonged to the year 2020 and now a draft of the program is published on the web page of the Ministry of Labour of the Russian Federation – everybody can take part in discussion and make suggestions to the program.
The director of Karelian Tourism University Elvira Pavlova mentioned curious statistics – in Europe 127 millions of people with disabilities use tourist services on regular basis. 70% of them have financial and physical opportunities to travel by their own, 30% - need compulsory accompaniment. Tourist profit only from this group of population accounts for 80 billions euro per year. European countries have great experience in this field and there are many special tourist companies which successfully work for people with disabilities. Unfortunately, there are only 3 such companies in Russia and generally they send their clients abroad.
The railway, bus and riverside stations are serious barriers on way to Petrozavodsk and as a result to the island of Kizhi, - Director of the Karelian Tourist Information Center Alexey Tigushkin highlighted in his presentation. There is only one carriage in the train “Petrozavodsk – Saint-Petersburg” which is equipped for wheel-chair users, and in this carriage only one compartment is designed for them. As a result, the number of such tourists who can visit our town accounts for 2 persons a day.
Director of the Engineering company “Strih” Sergey Lykov, who designed many building in Karelia, is sure that the museum “Kizhi” can and have to implement accessible environment on the island. What is more, he supported the idea that the implementation of comprehensive accessible environment is impossible without reconstruction and adaptation of riverside station and transport.
Seminar partners decided to continue joint work, attract deputies and initiate legislation so that oblige stations owners to do all for creation of accessible environment.
The trip to the Kizhi island will take place in May in the framework of the project.
